Feature released in SummitAI Platform (Discovery, Tahoe)

What's New?

Nmap, short for Network Mapper, is a free, open-source tool for vulnerability scanning and network discovery. Network administrators use Nmap to identify what devices are running on their systems, discovering hosts that are available and the services they offer, finding open ports and detecting security risks.

In this update, we have detailed:

  • What is Nmap Based Discovery in Summit
  • Introduction and prerequisites of Nmap Based Discovery in Summit
  • How to enable Sudo Access
  • Windows Servers discovery and WMI User Access

Sudo (superuser do) is a utility for UNIX- and Linux-based systems that provides an efficient way to give specific users permission to use specific system commands at the root level of the system. In Ubuntu Linux, the root account is not configured by default. If users want a root account password, they must set it up manually to use “sudo.” Using sudo is a good way to protect the user’s computer from being used as a tool for exploitation.

Using sudo, a system administrator can:

  • Give some users (or groups of users) the ability to run some (or all) commands at the root level of system operation.
  • Control which commands a user can use on each host.
  • Enables clarity of commands executed by user(s).
  • Using timestamp files, control the amount of time a user must enter commands after they have entered their password and are granted appropriate privileges.

  • Sudo access to be provided by Linux admin.
  • All commands that are used for Discovery that don’t have root access need to be added to the sudoer file.
  • Any incorrect changes may lead to issues with the server or cause the system to crash.
