What is Software Metering and Non-Compliance?
Software Metering calculates the number of Software installations discovered from all Assets. It also gives the frequency of Software usage and unused Software on the network, which helps to decide on the need of Software license renewal. This helps the Administrators to manage the Software Assets efficiently and to avoid the risk of license non-compliance.
Advantages of Software Metering and Non-Compliance
- License compliance management
- License key management
- Helps control the misuse of volume licensing
- Helps to monitor the Software usage
Configurations
To configure Software Metering, the licensed Software must be added to the Asset Inventory and subsequently the Software licenses from the Asset Inventory must be mapped to the discovered Software and products.
Add licensed Software to Inventory and License Mapping
All the licensed Software must be added in the Inventory for optimal Software Metering. While adding a Software, the license count, volume license key, and license type must be accurately specified for better tracking of Software Assets. For more information, see Adding Software Assets.
Software License Mapping helps to link the licensed Software from the Inventory to the various versions of the same software discovered from all endpoint systems.
You can map Software by versions or by individual products that are part of an Application Suite. For example: Adobe Acrobat license mapped to Acrobat X, Acrobat XI, and Adobe Acrobat 9. To map Software by versions, go to Software Mapping tab. For more information, see License Mapping.
To map Software products to their respective Software Suite, go to Product Mapping tab. For example: Microsoft Office Suite mapped to MS Visio, MS Project, and MS FrontPage. For more information, see License Mapping.
Configure Alerts for Software License
Alerts are notification emails that can be sent to the Administrators based on certain triggers. Two types of Alerts can be configured for Software Licenses.

Custom Scheduler Jobs
Relevant Custom Scheduler Jobs need to be configured for the Software Metering to function correctly. Following is the Custom Scheduler Job for Software Metering and its recommended settings:
Asset Custom Date Alert: Responsible for sending the alert notification e-mail to the Administrators regarding the Warranty
Expiry Date of Fixed Assets. This job should be configured on the SummitAI Application Server. It is recommended to schedule
this job to run once every day.
Asset Software Compliance Alert: This job tracks the license utilization. If the number of available licenses is less than
the number of utilized licenses, this job sends alerts to the Administrator. This job should be configured on the SummitAI
Application Server. It is recommended to schedule this job to run once every day.
