Adding or Modifying Device

You can add a new Network Device or modify an existing Network Device with the details, such as IP Address, Device Type, Host Name, Circuit Id details, and so on. You can also modify the Device details.

To Add Devices:

  1. Select Operations > User > Views > Common Device View. The COMMON DEVICE VIEW page is displayed.
  2. On the COMMON DEVICE VIEW page, click ADD NEW DEVICE on the ACTIONS panel. The ADD/MODIFY DEVICE page is displayed.
  3. Fill in the required details. For more information about fields on the ADD/MODIFY DEVICE page, see Field Description.

  4. Click SUBMIT. A new Device is added.

Field Description

The following table describes the fields on the ADD/MODIFY DEVICE page:

DETAILS

Tenant

Lists all the assigned Tenants for the logged in user. Select the Tenant from the list.

Configuration Item ID

Displays the associated CI identification number for the Network Device.

Note: If a CI ID is not displayed, create a new CI ID for the device that you are adding in the CMDB module.
IP Address

Type in the IP Address of the Service.

Device Type

Displays the defined Device Types. Select a type of a Device from the list box that you want to add for a View.

Host Name

Type in the Host name of the Device.

Is Monitor through NAT IP

(Optional) Specify the NAT IP address for the Device. NAT IP Address refers to the public IP address for the External Server to enable Network Monitoring from this application. If selected, the field is enabled to enter the NAT IP address and it is a mandatory field. If not selected, this field is disabled and you cannot enter the NAT IP address.

Serial Number

Lists the configured serial numbers. Select the Serial Number for the Device from the list.

Service Entitlement

Lists the configured Service Entitlements. Select a Service Entitlement.

Monitoring Protocol

You can now monitor network devices through APIs. By default, the Monitoring protocol is selected as SNMP. If you want to use API for monitoring network devices, then select Monitoring Protocol as API. Monitoring devices through API are newly added. Other parameters added additionally for monitoring using API are Environment and Environment Network ID. 

Note

You need to select ‘Monitoring Protocol’ as API only then Environment and Environment Network ID are enabled and displayed. 

SNMP Version

Lists the SNMP versions: 

  • SNMP V1
  • SNMP V2c
  • SNMP V3

By default, the value is displayed as SNMP V2c.

Note: SNMP V3 requires authentication and login credentials for managing a Device on the network. SNMP V3 provides important security features, such as confidentiality to prevent snooping by any unauthorized source, message integrity to avoid data tampering, and authentication to validate the source.
Authentication Type

If the SNMP Version is selected as SNMP V3. Displays the following list of Authentication Types:

  • AuthNoPriv: If selected, you need to specify the authentication details. Select the SNMP user and authentication mode (SHA or MD5).
  • AuthPriv: If selected, you need to specify the SNMP user, authentication mode, privilege password, and privilege protocol.
  • NoAuthNoPriv: If selected, authentication and privilege is not applicable. Select the SNMP user from the list.
SNMP User

This field is displayed if you select SNMP Version as SNMP V3. Type in the SNMP user name.

SNMP Password

This field is displayed if you select SNMP Version as SNMP V3. Type in the SNMP password.

Environment

List of available API Environments. Select a Environment.

If API is selected as type of Monitoring Protocol only then Environment is displayed. 

Environment Network ID

This is a unique and fixed ID for devices and the value is fetched according to Environment chosen. Type Environment Network ID according to Environment field chosen.

If API is selected as type of Monitoring Protocol only then Environment Network ID is displayed. 

SNMP Community Strings

This field is displayed after you select SNMP Version as SNMP V1 or SNMP V2. By default, it displays the value as Public. Type in the SNMP community string of the device, which is provided by the Network Operator.

Note: This field is disabled if you select SNMP Version as SNMP V3.
SNMP Authentication
To authenticate the SNMP provide the login credentials for managing a Device on the network. SNMP V3 requires authentication and provides important security features, such as confidentiality to prevent snooping by any unauthorized source, message integrity to avoid data tampering, and authentication to validate the source.
Criticality

Lists the options to specify the Criticality of the Device: Low, Medium, and High. Select an option based on the Criticality of the Device.

Privilege Protocol

Lists the types of Privilege Protocol. Select the Privilege Protocol from the list.

Privilege Password

Specify the privilege password for the authentication. This option is enabled if the Authentication Type is specified as Auth Priv.

SNMP Port

Specify the SNMP port name.

IOS Version

Lists the configured Internet Operating System (IOS) types. Select an IOS Type from the list.

Vendor

Lists the configured Vendors names. Select a Vendor name.

Note: These Vendor names are appended to the list each time a Device from a new Vendor is added during the Discovery process.
Customer

Lists the configured Customer names. Select a Customer name from the list box for whom the Device is installed.

Location

Lists the configured Locations. Select the Location of the Device.

Monitoring Source

Lists the configured Monitoring Source Types.

  • Summit Server: This refers to the machine, where Summit Server is installed. Select this option to perform the monitoring operation from this Server.
  • Proxy Agent: This is an alternative agent. Select this option to perform the monitoring operation from this agent.
Ping Protocol

Lists the configured protocol names. Select a protocol using which you want to communicate with the Device.

Monitoring ProxyLists the configured Monitoring Proxy Servers. Select the Monitoring Proxy Server from the list.
E-Mail To

Type in the e-mail ids of the recipients to whom the alert/notification e-mails about the Device status need to be sent in “To” list.

Alert Mail: The alert e-mail is sent whenever the Device is Down or whenever the Device crosses the set Threshold.

Notification Mail: The notification e-mail is sent whenever the Device status changes to Up from Down and also when the device utilization is below the specified Threshold.

E-Mail CC

Type in the e-mail ids of the recipients to whom the alert/notification e-mails about the Device status should be sent in the “Cc” list.

DescriptionType in a brief description about the Device.
Remarks

Type in any notes or comments about the Network Device.

Ping TimeoutType in the Ping Time Out for the Network Device. In the specified time, the Network Device communicates the destination IP address for the Network Device to reach and record results.
Ping Retry

Type in the Ping Retry number. The Ping Retry number indicates the number of times the Network Device would try to communicate in case of failed ping attempts.

Reference Id

Specify the unique reference identification number for the Device.

Note: If the reference ID is not configured, the unique identification number of the Device is displayed in the Device details.
SOP

Lists the configured Standard Operating Procedures. Select a SOP from the list.

CPU Core BaseLineType in the name for the CPU Core Baseline.
Category

Displays the category of the selected Device type.

View NameDisplays the list of configured View names.
BackUp Device

If selected, you can specify the user details who can take the backup configuration details. Click the Clear icon to clear the specified values.

Click the Select Device icon to specify the backup devices.

Search

Specify the Backup Device in the text box to search for the Backup Device.

Customer

Lists the configured Customers. Select a Customer associated with the Backup Device from the list.

Location

Lists the configured Locations. Select a Location associated with the Backup Device from the list.

Backup Devices

Lists the Backup Devices based on the specified filter criteria. Select the Backup Devices.

Active

Indicates that the Device is enabled or disabled for a View.

  • If selected, the Device is enabled to display in a View.
  • If not selected, the Device is deactivated and is not displayed in a View.
CIRCUIT ID DETAILS
Circuit IdType in the name for the Circuit Id.
ISP NameDisplays the list of Internet Service Provider names.
Commissioned DateSelect the commissioned date.
Decommissioned DateSelect the decommissioned date.
PO / Work Order NumberType in the Purchase Order or Work Order number.
PO DateSelect the Purchase Order date.
Managed By

Select the company or infrastructure, which manages the Network Devices.

Local Contact DetailsType in the details of the local contact.
