Updating Invalid Serial Number

The Asset Serial Number must be a unique value across an organization. The invalid or non-standard Serial Number leads to inaccurate tracking of an Asset. It also results in desynchronized data in the Asset Inventory and Discovery.
This functionality helps the user to update a new Serial Number of any Assets that contains an invalid Serial Number. Users can create an exclusion list of an invalid Serial Number and MAC Address that you want to exclude from the discovery query.
Scenarios for Invalid Serial Number
- Consider a laptop with the crashed motherboard. Fix a new motherboard on the laptop. Now, the laptop gets a new Serial Number.
- Sometimes, invalid Serial Number captures while importing Assets from the discovery. For some assembled machines, the value of Serial Number is To be filled by OEM. In such cases, discover the machine with the MAC Address as a unique identifier.
- Using this feature, the Administrator can update the old Serial Number with the correct Serial Number.
Scenarios for Invalid MAC Address
Sometimes, if a machine has an invalid Serial Number, consider the MAC Address as the next unique identifier of the machine. During this process, machines are discovered and identified with a Virtual Adapter MAC Address instead of the actual MAC address. In such cases, the Virtual Adapter MAC Address is excluded and other MAC Address of that machine is identified as a unique identifier.
