What is Change Management?
Change Management is a process which helps to monitor and handle the changes in an IT service through standardized procedures. The main purpose of Change Management is to implement the beneficial changes without major disruption to the IT services. A change can be defined as the modification of anything that could impact the IT services. A change may be initiated in response to the Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for a Problem, or from modification made to a program or project seeking improvement in the service quality. A change in the IT Service may also arise from externally imposed requirements such as legislative changes.
Change Management - Process
Using the Change Management module, Change Requesters, Change Managers, and users with appropriate access rights can raise Change Records (CRs) to request changes to the existing infrastructure or process, or to request new ones. The Change Management module automates end-to-end capturing, routing, collaboration, and execution of changes leading to a streamlined and efficient change management fulfillment process. Information on scheduled changes and their statuses is provided in the Incident Management module. Also, the Incident Management module provides information to the Change Management module regarding the Incidents caused due to incorrect change implementation. After implementing a CR, the CR Approver updates the Configuration Management Database CMDB. The Change Management reports can be accessed based on the requirements.
