Description
Hardware Variance is the variance observed in the Hardware properties of the latest Asset Discovery Data to the Hardware properties specified in the Asset Management Data. Using the Hardware Variance, the Asset Managers can verify the latest Asset Discovery Data against the Asset Management Data and update the Asset Management Data or identify unauthorized Hardware upgrades or additions. The Asset Discovery Data is the latest discovered data of an Asset.
Example: If a laptop's processor is upgraded from i5 to i7 and the upgrade is not updated in the Asset Management Data, a Hardware Variance in the processor is identified in the latest Asset Discovery. Asset Managers can update the Hardware Variance in the Asset Management Data and in the next Asset Discovery, the Hardware Variance is not displayed.
Advantages
- Quick identification of any unauthorized hardware device
- Update Asset Management Data accurately and avoid any discrepancy
- Take appropriate actions: Update the Asset Management Data or remove the hardware
Accessing the Feature
Viewing Hardware Variance
You can view the Hardware Variance on the HARDWARE VARIANCE page (Asset > User > Manage Asset > Variance > Hardware ), see Viewing Hardware Variance.
Configurations
Configure Hardware Variance
To configure Hardware Variance, Custom Hardware Variance should be enabled for Custom Attributes and the required Asset Category attributes need to be configured through Key field Mapping. These two configurations are required to display the Hardware Variance report.
Configure Hardware Variance Alerts
You can add Alert Notifications for Hardware Variance, see Configuring Asset Alerts. Select Alert Type as Hardware Variance.

Custom Scheduler Job
Relevant Custom Scheduler Job needs to be configured for the Hardware Variance report/alert to function correctly. Following is the Custom Scheduler Job for Hardware Variance and its recommended settings:
Asset Variance Alert: Responsible for sending the alert notification e-mail when any hardware change is discovered. This job
should be configured on the SummitAI Application Server. It is recommended to schedule this job to run once every day.
For information about configuring Custom Scheduler Jobs, see SummitAI Platform Help.
